Samsung?s Galaxy Tab series of Android based tablets isn?t the most sold or most critically acclaimed, but they do get the job done and that too for a reasonable price. They are available in all sorts of sizes, from 7-inch to an upcoming tablet with an 11.8-inch display.
To boost sales, Samsung has announced a new Student Edition Bundle for the smallest Galaxy Tab ? the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 ? which comes at the same base price of $249 for an 8GB model, but with an extra keyboard accessory and a USB connector accessory. Check out the details after the jump.
The news comes in the form of an official press release announcing the bundle and its availability. According to the release, the bundle saves users a smooth $100 by including a keyboard accessory for quicker and more comfortable typing and a USB connector for connecting things like an external hard drive, flash drive, a camera etc.
Do we recommend it? Yes and no. The first alternative tablet that comes to mind is the Nexus 7 which not only costs less, but also comes with a higher resolution display, faster processor, the latest version of Android (4.1 Jelly Bean), direct support from Google for future updates to the OS, vibrant hacking and development community and, arguably, a much better build quality and design.
It really depends on you or whoever you?re buying the tablet for. If you like to hack / tweak your smartphones and tablets, then you will have a much better time with the Nexus 7. If, however, you?re not all that techie and use your tablet the way its manufacturer intended it, then you?ll have a good time with the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. It?s comfortable to hold, has a long lasting battery, comes with a keyboard for faster typing, USB connector for handling external USB-based devices, a microSD slot for expandable memory and will some day get 4.1 Jelly Bean.
The Student Edition Bundle is available today from places like Tiger Direct, Amazon, Best Buy, Fry?s Electronics and Costco.
Is the deal good enough to get people to buy a Galaxy Tab over the Nexus 7? Let us know over in the comments section on our Facebook and Google+ page.
